Morning update · 2026-10-18

Standard: no new Challenges; deck names updated

New results 2026-10-15 – 2026-10-18, compared with 2026-10-01 – 2026-10-14.

What changed

  1. No new Standard Challenges. MTGO has posted none since the two Oct 16 Challenge 32s, so today's Standard update covers League 5–0s from Oct 17 and 18 only. The share table and card trends still include the Oct 15–16 Challenges.
  2. Some decks have new names from today. Archetypes that were mixing different decks have been split: Izzet Maestro is separate from Izzet Spellementals, Mono-Red Aggro from Boros Dragons, Izzet Burn and Izzet Aggro from each other, and Jeskai Control and Dimir Control from Azorius Control. Azorius Artifacts is now Jeskai Artifacts, with Jeskai Manufacturing split out; Temur Kona and Golgari Self-Mill are new names. Shares for these decks are not directly comparable with earlier updates.
  3. Orzhov Lifegain lists are changing. Maindeck Emptiness went from 32% to 61% of lists and Ajani Resolute dropped from 92% to 57%. Overlord of the Balemurk and Settle the Wreckage appeared in 26% of sideboards (5 players), up from none.
  4. Jeskai Artifacts plays more Cryogen Relic: every list has it, now 3.7 copies on average, up from 2.6.

Metagame share

Too few results in the last day to read much from, so this opens on 3 days. The other ranges are a click away.

Recent: Oct 15 – Oct 18. Earlier: Oct 1 – Oct 14.

Meta share counts every list in the range: 120 Challenge lists from 4 events, 55 League 5–0s (175 in all). Challenge records include mirrors; the published players won 56.9% of their matches, so z compares each deck with that average.

“Before” = meta share in Oct 1 – Oct 14 (711 lists). ▲/▼ marks a change of 3 points or more. Top 8s count Challenges. Hover a win rate for its record.

Card trends in the top decks

Share of the archetype’s lists (Challenge Top 32s, League 5–0s and paper Top 32s) playing at least one copy, earlier → recent, with average copies. A card is listed when its share moved 25+ points (and at least 3 different players adopted it) or its average copy count moved by a full card. Each range is compared with the 14 days before it. New marks a change first reported in this update.

New spice

League 5–0s, Challenge Top 8s and paper Top 32s whose maindeck is 20 or more cards away from their archetype’s stock list, or from archetypes with no stock list yet. Some of these may be older lists that haven’t been seen in a while rather than brand-new ideas. Pictured: the cards that set each list apart. Full 75 grouped by card type.

Two League 5–0s qualify.

Method

New window Oct 14–17, compared with Sept 30 – Oct 13. Cards and lists already covered in the Oct 16 update are left out. Mardu Discard is now its own archetype (3+ Moonshadow in a white-black-red list); it was counted as Other: Mardu before. The earlier Reality Fracture doc used the same name.
